Urgent Call for Supplies: Redtail Air Flies Flood Relief to Montezuma Creek

When the San Juan River rose last weekend, families in Montezuma Creek and Aneth had to leave in the middle of the night. Many of them haven't been able to go home yet. They need help today. Redtail Air Adventures and the Tourism Leadership & Sustainability Foundation are collecting donations in Moab right now and flying and driving them straight to the relief center in Blanding and affected communities.

The Navajo Nation Department of Emergency Management ordered evacuations for Montezuma Creek and Aneth late Saturday, October 24. About 150 residents left overnight. Homes flooded, major roads and bridges closed, and the river crested at levels longtime residents say they had never seen. The emergency is still unfolding. Families remain displaced, cleanup is only starting, and floodwater damaged a wastewater facility upstream, so health officials have warned people to stay out of the river. Clean drinking water, warm blankets and power for phones are needed immediately.

What's needed right now

How to donate

Please provide 30 minutes notice to Brennan Frost at 435-259-7421 (ask for Brennan) to drop off donations at any of these three Moab locations. The sooner supplies come in, the sooner Redtail pilots can fly and drive them to flood-affected families. Relief efforts are ongoing, and we'll share a donation deadline and updates as they come.

Montezuma Creek is our neighbor, and they need help today. Grab what you can, drop it off this weekend, and we'll lift it the rest of the way.

A special thank you to San Juan County Commissioner Jamie Harvey for assisting us in coordinating logistics and a timely drop-off.

For questions, contact Brennan Frost at brennan@flyredtail.com or call 435-259-7421 and ask for Brennan.
